Vision

A thriving Union County rooted in community and legacy, where quality housing, shared purpose, and positive impact come together to make home a reality for all.

History

The Breckinridge Legacy Foundation is located on and named after the former military base Camp Breckinridge. It was built in 1942 and was named after Kentuckian US Vice President and Confederate Secretary of War, John C. Breckinridge (1821-1875). During WWII it was the first army base in the US used to house prisoners of war as 3,000 German Soldiers were moved to the camp. Here they worked both at the camp and helped farms in the local community. The camp was closed in 1949, though reopened as a training facility during the Korean War (1950-1954). During its opening it hosted many notable personnel, the most famous being Jackie Robinson who would go on to integrate profession baseball.

Today the land is divided up and hosts the Job Corps Training Center that was opened in 1965, the Breckinridge Golf Course established in 1949 and the Breckinridge Legacy Foundation from 2026. We are proud to be located on land with so much important history, and we are looking forward to building on that with our projects.
